Warm terracotta tiles meet clean white subway tiles in this A-frame bathroom that's equal parts retro and modern.
The Brief
Shannon + Lucas got in touch about renovating their bathroom, but like many renovation projects, we uncovered a few other issues that needed attention. Their A-frame home had some leaking flashings and window surrounds that weren't doing them any favors.
The Challenge
The bathroom transformation was the exciting part, but the real challenge was tackling those leaking windows in a cost-effective way. A-frame homes are beautiful, but they come with their own set of complications when you're trying to fix fundamental weathertightness issues. It's not the sexy stuff, but it's the right thing to do – and it means the home will be protected for years to come.
The Design
We worked with designs from Samantha at Green Room Studios, which gave us a solid foundation to manage the rest of the project. The design really nailed that retro vibe – think 1960s sensibility with a modern twist. The tiling work was a standout feature, combining warm terracotta tones with crisp white subway tiles and clean lines throughout.
The Result
The bathroom now features a beautiful dual-sink vanity with floating vessel basins and wall-mounted taps. The terracotta tiles create this gorgeous earthy base that runs through the countertop and extends into the shower area, while the white tiles keep everything feeling fresh and bright. The sloped ceiling of the A-frame actually became a feature rather than a limitation, with built-in shelving and a window that brings in natural light and garden views.
The combination of vintage-inspired tile work and contemporary fixtures gives the space real character – it's retro without feeling dated, and modern without being cold.
